Words/Phrases

Customisation:

  • Mod(s) – Modifications, changes to the game you can install to create builds and play a different way
  • Skin – What a player is wearing, like an avatar, a player can make any skin they want pixel by pixel in Java edition, but in bedrock there are more limitations

Dimensions:

  • The Overworld – The dimension the player starts off in, like earth
  • The Nether – A different dimension, looks very similar to how hell is described
  • The End – A different dimension, this is where the final boss, the ender dragon, can be found and defeated.

Items:

  • Gapple – Golden apple
  • Notch/God Apple – An enchanted golden apple
  • Stack – The most amount of items the player can have in one slot, this usually refers to 64 items in a single slot but there are a few exceptions, like eggs or snowballs (most throwable items) that only go up to 16

Fighting/competition:

  • AFK – Away From Keyboard
  • Crit – Refers to a critical hit, an attack doing more damage than usual, achieved by hitting an enemy while falling
  • Fall damage – Damage taking from falling from a high place
  • Griefer – Someone who purposefully hinders and hurts someone else, to grief would be to break another player’s build or kill them and take their items
  • PvP – Player Vs Player in a fight
  • Spleef – A minigame where players destroy the blocks below the others to make them fall below and lose, the last player on the platform wins

Mobs:

  • Mob – An entity that moves, short for mobile entity
  • Hostile – Refers to mobs that attack the player
  • Neutral – Refers to mobs that don’t attack the player unless the player does something to them (e.g enderman attack if the player looks at there eyes or attacks them)
  • Passive – A mob that won’t ever attack the player

Movement:

  • Strafe/strafing – Walking one way while looking in another direction
  • MLG – Originates from Major League Gaming, refers to when a player falls and saves themself from fall damage using an item or block, reducing/negating the damage
  • Parkour – A set of blocks the player needs to jump across to reach the other side
  • Neo – Jumping around a wall 2+ blocks high on a 1 block wide bridge
